Not really a "nice Labour Man"

"He's changed politically, too. He adored Thatcher and credits her with the fact that finally the 'cockneys and chirpy chappies' were the ones doing the deals behind the desks"

In fact not very Labour at all-

But he switched allegiance before the 1997 election. 'This isn't a Labour government,' he enthused when Blair was elected. 'They are a Conservative government. The difference is that they're not run by toffs and people born with silver spoons in their mouths.'

He does seem a bit chippy about "toffs" but he felt the same when he was a Thatcherite Tory, some people just have short memories.

            Barrow-boy principle

So not political allegiance then. Surely though he must dislike Cameron, Osborne and Johnson, purely because of their looks and accent. That's his idea of 'meritocracy'. What I didn't like is the way he singled Raef out and put him in charge as opposed to the one that 'volunteered' (Michael). Set him up well and truly.
What 'chief barrow boy' forgets is that someone like Michael or Clare would rob him blind if they had the chance, as opposed to someone like Raef or Lucinda who seem to have some principles, be it from their background or education or both.
Like the 'ice maiden' said the other week: 'if you want to work with these sort of people, then I am out of here'.
I hope he ends up with another Nick Leeson-type.
