Or so I thought. Civitas say Labour should stop treating fathers like optional extras. Great, I thought, fathers are actually being recognised as an important part of a childs life.

Turns out they are saying fathers should be forced to pay for their children. Absolute no brainer if you ask me but I would have liked to see some measures to force mothers to integrate separated fathers with their children...

What they really want is for the State to take on the role of both parents.

Family courts summed it up by interpretting the 1989 Children Act line 1 from "the interests of the child shall be paramount" to "the interests of the child are aligned with the interests of the mother and shall be paramount".

I spent years helping Matt O'Connor trying to galvanize men into action - but with little success. I hope the next group along have more luck.
