Is that all, I hit 260 on the way to work Monday, legally. Essentially I'm saying I overtake doing the speed limit, and no longer worry so much if in the process I hold up for a few seconds someone else "overtaking" at a higher speed than me. Though if they're going a lot quicker than me, say 20-30 rather 10mph quicker, and therefore likely to be held up more than usual, I will put my foot down to get out of their way.Originally posted by meridian View PostSo you drive at 50 in lane 3 when the speed limit is 50?? Normal speed in the outside motorway lane is 90-100 for a 70mph limit. Go back to the inside lane, grandma.
Apparently Dodgy things it's selfish of me to hold him up for those few seconds, but not selfish of him to require me to permanently stay below my desired speed, so that I don't slow down his "overtaking". (I assume he's so irate because he sees himself as the driver whose "overtaking" speed is so much higher than mine.)
I can only dream of speeds in excess of 70. Traffic means it's seldom possible anywhere near London. I always travel as fast as I can, though seldom exceeding the speed limit. The average speed recorded by my car over a working week is 21mph!Comment

I like to set my cruise control at the speed limit (after allowing for speedometer inaccuracy by calibrating against satnav) and it really annoys me that I regularly have to brake for people travelling slower than the speed limit in lanes 1 and 2. However if I move into lane 3 I get someone up my tail in no time at all. So I switch between 2 and 3 on a regular basis.
If someone comes up behind me in 3, I don't accelerate to get out of their way, I let the cruise control carry me at a leisurely (i.e. speed limit) pace past the lane 2 traffic until I can change lanes. I don't feel guilty about holding lane 3 car up, because the chances are that by getting out of his way so he can go faster than I want to, I'm going to get stuck in lane 2 going slower than I want to, until another gap opens up an I can get back into 3.Blood in your pooComment
