And as far as the "can't afford a 911" image lots of Porsche owners seem to forget if it wasn't for the boxster there currently wouldn't be any Porsche.

There is a same argument in the Harley fraternity if you drive a Sportster you can't afford the real thing.... what utter tosh last time I checked the Sportster is made by harley same goes for the Porsche and it's Boxster that and the fact were all interested in the same thing.... Engines and going fast
You're the one who brought up the "branding/perception/badge" aspect of buying a car. Who wants a car "that saved porsche" just because lots of people bought it

It's a good job you got the right badge and not one of those Japanese cars

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

My 3 year old Japanese car (s2000) is worth 67% of what I paid for it. I can't think of many cars that beat that for residuals

Ahhh but I bet you didn't buy it for it's residuals when you first bought it?

Not really but I also didn't want a car worth nothing at the end, I almost bought a Z4 instead for the residuals, but it was duller and the build quality wasn't as good as the Honda. Since the BMW residuals have slipped as the build quality issues have surfaced.

Add the Range Rover and I might consider it. Having said that I'd struggle to sell it on, who wants one of those POS? ;-)

I'm actually considering going back to my pushbike this is the most I've ever lost on a car although to be fair my boxster is the original shape and since then there have been two facelifts which haven't helped much.
