The Terminator is based upon Day of the Daleks, by James Cameron's own admission (guerillas from a post-nuclear future ruled by heartless machine creatures attempt to change their present by travelling back in time [in this case to 1972] to kill the man they deem responsible and in doing so inadvertently cause the future they are trying to avoid).

Us Daleks always get there first.
