I think you should look at the threads in the General forum. You even have a Troll Alert thread. Grats.

Do a poll then and good luck.

If you know these films so well then you should be able to do other comparisons of similar scenes and tell me what is wrong with the web site you linked.
Let me start: The web site compares the two wagons exploding. It says both are armoured and it states that in the Matrix we dont know what happened to make the truck burst into flames.
In the matrix it is a garbage truck (an aknowledged ref to GITS BTW) and it bursts into flames as agebt Smith crashed it after trying to wipe out Trinity at the phone box. Compare that scene to the phone box and garbage truck in GITS.

BTW. You are arguing with a benched contractor with access to both films if I am unsure of my facts.
You do seem to have quite a bit of time available to analyse the minutae I have both available too, although I have some meetings today that I have to do some research for so don't have the time to break everything down to it's exponents and analyse them logically, thinking them through. That, and I doubt I can be bothered right now, I suppose from a high level the main theme of the film is lifted from GIS, in that if it didn't exist then neither would the Matrix.

The more in depth you analyse the less similar they will appear of course.

The attack on the Death Star sequence is pretty heavily influenced by 633 Squadron I would say.

No, the concepts are completely different.

Not exactly. The Matrix may still have been made, but would not have been able to refer to GITS.

True, but you may find more obvious references in the details.

You are talking about 2 of my fave films here and I dont need time to recall the bits I know. I would only need to check when unsure.

          As you couldnt do it:
          1. GITS: One of the agents presses a button on a briefcase. The case falls away to leave him holding a small machine gune.
You may recognise that from the Matrix.
          2. GITS: The ghost hacked guy shooting high velocity rounds at the truck scene. Compare the raining bullet cases to Neo shooting the mini gun on the chopper.

          Want any more?

There are lots of refs, but they are acknowledged as homage rather than unacknolwedged rip offs.

The Matrix is a stand alone, complex movie (did you like what I did there?). It is not a live version of GITS. The story, the setting, the characters and the scenes are not ripped off.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

The original point and click interface by
          Smith and Wesson.

Step back, have a think and adjust my own own attitude from time to time

Ok, this is my last post as you are clearly determined to disagree with me, which is fine. I mean there are the specifics like the green kanji characters that became binary characters in The Matrix, the cerebral interfaces at the base of the neck etc. etc.

Then there is the general theme of the movies, mainly humans being linked to a network in the future, and hackers (Neo and gang?) waging a war against cyborgs (Agent Smith's?) in order to infiltrate the Matrix, er, interactive network even. Although of course we are on the side of the Cyborgs/Agent Smith's in GIS.

Glad you are giving up, it is beyond my capabilities to explain the concepts of thes two movies to someone who is so clearly wide of the mark to start with.

Only giving up on trying to argue the point with you as you clearly refuse to consider it, which is fine.

I was hoping that this thread would develop into a discussion about eastern cinema in general

Looks like I over estimated CUK again

You'll need your own thread with CFK for that. Have fun debating with him.
