If you have the time and energy then it is meant to be a very much self-rewarding experience being in the order. The "benefits" as such are in the networking and the opporunity to meet people professional. I think it goes without saying that those on the square will assist each other in whatever way possible.

For some, having a life outside of family is too much to bear and memorising large chunks of the book are also beyond the capability of many.

Being stripped naked and humbled in the first instance is also not to everyone's taste.

Aside from that, the actual efforts of meeting up in a Lodge etc is not a regular function and doesn't detract too much from your everyday life.

Ego thing? Not at all. Extrovert - almost definitely.

If you knew anything about Freemasonry within the UK you'd know that there is a big push to boost the profile of Freemasonry underway.

I like meeting the other lodge members, the challenge of learning lines, the feeling that I'm giving a bit back, the food and drink after meetings, social gatherings, good natured banter, meeting people I wouldn't ordinarily meet - If it wasn't enjoyable - I wouldn't be a member.

I haven't, as yet, met anyone who is running the world! - Of course battery powered cars are a different matter!!!
