Sandy, while i agree corruption exists in this country and is greater than most people think, it is no where near the levels nor as blatant as it is in other countrys like russia and north africa.

Here you might bribe an official to jump the line or get things done faster. In other countrys you bribe them to just get things done, period. And in most case's there is abosultly nothing you can do about it, unless maybe bribe someone else to do something about it.

Yeah, pretty much the only other way to use "friends" who will ask buarocract in question to actually do their job without asking for bribe -- this also happens when you bribe their boss.

You see corruption in Russia is self-evident from this custom -- boxes of chocolate given to secretaries or low (normally female) clerks in govt buildings, this is acceptable and in fact more or less required.

Problem with places is that they don't show up weights, for example UK might be 10th in the world by quality of life where as Iraq could be 150th, but the difference between UK and Iraq won't be 15 times, the difference will be a fecking infinity.

So yes, UK might not be the most possible ideal place in the world insofar as corruption is concerned, however if you check some real sh1tholes not far from these shores you would consider that this country has no corruption whatsoever.

Finally, it is one thing if some people somewhere are corrupt, and its totally another when corruption becomes the way of life, forced on pretty much all citizens of the country like it happens in Russia.

In contrast to the UK: today on bbc.co.uk

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko is to disband the country's traffic police because it has proved impossible to stamp out corruption

I think you misunderstood atw, the UK has very little corruption.

Yes I know that, and that's exactly what I was saying however Sandy seems to believe its not the case, yet she clearly refuses to test it by attempting to bride police officer or judge.

I am pretty sure its "she" -- her feminine side is self-evident from the way she argues
