Worthwhile contracting in Bristol area?

PAH - Not sure if you are a tester - if so, TCL are a good testing consultancy in Bristol (Aztec), and I think have a fair few contracts around the area.

Tester?

That has to be one of the most boring jobs I've ever come across. I do like the battles that sometimes break out between testers and developers though.

However.... I am into quality management - strategy, test planning, poke and prod - lighting the fuse and running. Yeah, that is nice and entertianing.

There are plenty of finance companies in Bristol, living there and having finance background, I've had calls for contracts in most of them. They all seem to be C# though, that said I'm not sure why an agent would call me with regard to a VB.net position.

When I was looking for work (in January) I was surprised how many calls I got for Bristol contracts (finance and otherwise), so it can't be all that bad.

Don't worry C# is on my CV and I'll be able to back it up by the time Easter is over.

Not so sure about breaking into financial/banking companies. I suppose it's a bit of a catch 22 scenario unless you get lucky with landing the first contract to get your foot through the door.

Close enough. Not quite as bad as Devon and Somerset, but you can tell they're all related, if not inbred.

At least it's not as bad as Wales where they all have the same surname!

I suppose there's an element of local gene pooling in many small towns and villages, seeing as it's only in the last 50 years or so that people have moved around en-mass chasing the work. Shame really, I sometimes wish most of my relatives hadn't moved away just because of the lack of work/opportunities up north, which is why I wouldn't mind working in the south west area for a while where a big group of them are now.
