I have lived in rented accom. many times in my life and have only ever seen the standard go up. If I were a single young bloke these days, I'd be looking to rent rather than busting my balls trying to get on the mortgage treadmill.

I agree. 30 years ago when I didn't have the 10% deposit necessary to get a mortgage, the rental options (that were reasonably affordable) were pants.

You busted a gut to save up the 10% to get out of the god awful places.

Last year, I looked at some rental places and they were all really nice, why would you want to work your balls off to buy a place that's probably not going to increase in value in the current market.
