I don't think it's envy at having made money.

The problem is that BTLers winning mean non-homeowners losing. And to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds extra for any kind of half-way decent house. Grounds for bitterness for sure.

I was told by a friend recently that his house had to go up in value so he could re-mortgague to help his children with deposits for places of their own!

I thought this country was about working hard to get somewhere - not about having rich parents?

I dont want to see the people, who have taken risk, penalised. But other solutions unattractive - can we build our way out? Can we target house inflation with interest rates?

I hate seeing Maggie's legacy, of work hard to get somewhere, squandered.

Sorry it's no ones "right" to "own" a home. There are plenty of homes out there to rent. Tell your friends children to rent somewhere. That's what most of Europe does.

Everyone has the right to buy a place, it is not a right to afford a place. If they are not wealthy enough to buy a place, rent a place.

You can't expect that people can pay anything on rents. Most probably people will have to commute further to somewhere that is affordable so at worst the winning ones will be the BTLs of cheaper areas whose rent value will get closer to the more expensive ones.
