I sometimes feel that people forget our Monarch is the Head of State and is only there because in the past her family were a gang of ruthless thugs who trampled over everyone who wasn't able to stand up to them.

...and relax
All of you who do not wish to show any loyalty to the state are perfectly at liberty to remove yourselves from the state (courtesy of the state).
Give up your citizenship, go live elsewhere.
Or make your protest by giving up as much of your rights as you can. Give back your passport as you do not wish to be protected by the state. Do not excercise your right to vote, but make no political comment either.
Pay for what you are required to pay for but make your protest by not availing yourself of any state aid.
Lots of you willing to protest, but none willing to do anything about it.
Living in the UK and enjoying all it has to offer SHOULD require some sort of loyalty and commitment to the UK.I am not qualified to give the above advice!

If you ditch that concept, your basically promoting a "self-serving" society, who want rights, but with none of the responsibilities.
I'm not sure that's a healthy society.Comment

I sometimes think people forget that the Queen is Head of State and was born into a position of privilege, and that at the rights and freedoms "bestowed" upon the populace were actually wrestled from the Monarchy at various points through history, sometimes through bloody violence, rather than gifted. I sometimes think people forget that the separation of monarchy and judiciary means that most of the rights and freedoms of the people are actually defended and protected by the people themselves rather than by the monarch.Comment

The debate seems to be falling into two camps, those with a degree of historical perspective... and those with a hysterical one
All constructs such as Monarchy and State and the boundaries drawn on a map are impermanent, and created by people, usually a long time ago and then justified by people today to serve their version of "truth". Over time they all get replaced.
I choose to be loyal to my friends and family, (also impermanent, but has meaning to me) is there something wrong with that?Comment

1st step on the path to reclaiming our empire. What ho.
What flipin planet are these people living on?
OK being a Jock and republican (Not the Irish/terrorist kind) and a Celtic fan I may be slightly biased, but still seems like a dumb idea all the same.
We have not had a war for some time, but if there is one ( a serious one not one where we need a bit of oil because we've run out for a few days) you can bet all the lefty, anti military, royalty bashers will be the first to squael "where are the army?" if they are threatened.
I do also totally accept that in these circumstances it is a pathetic attempt to clear up the mess left by these socialists.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment
