I'll swear an oath of allegiance to the Queen when she swears one to me.

HMMM - less about reclaiming Britishness, and more about apeing our American cousins. Britain as a concept is politically less then 300 years old. Born here, lived here most of my life.
I'm an English republican who finds little in the current political mix that hopes to inspire anything other than control and fear of the population.
Find very little to swear to. Plenty to swear about thoughComment

The Queen is the head of state and such is ultimately responsible for all those rights and protections you make use of every day.
With rights come responsibilities.
I accept taht some people are not royalist, but you can exchange State for Queen if ever we go that route. Sensible compromise from Pvt Spud (for a change).
If you do not wish to be loyal then give up your rights and go find somewhere else to live.
I assume you have given up your passport.
Dont have time to argue today boys.I am not qualified to give the above advice!

A state is a construct for the purpose of tax collection, that is all.
Everything else: patriotism, nationalism etc.. are just artifacts of this essential truth, and just as false.Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

I have "bought" the right to peacefully disagree with the policies and structures of state, or has democracy really flown away for good.
My loyalty is to my family and friends of whatever culture or colour they may be, not some fekin abstract ideal I do not share whether that is politcal or religious.END RANT

Well said LG !
I sometimes feel that people forget our Monarch is the Head of State and is accorded certain rights and bestows upon us certain responsibilties and protections.
If you ditch that concept, your basically promoting a "self-serving" society, who want rights, but with none of the responsibilities.
I'm not sure that's a healthy society.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Maybe we should swear an oath to every tourist attraction?
"As FSM is my witness, I swear to observe and uphold the sanctity of Alton Towers, and fight to the death to preserve the freedoms and privileges of Drayton Manor Park and the Hard Rock Cafe. RAmen."Comment
