Just ran the optimize [sic] tables scripts and the main forums seem to be flying in IE now but still a bit slow to load in FF which is odd.
TPD is slower than a slow thing called Mr Slow. Maybe it is time TPD made a graceful exit? Your thoughts on a postcard please as it may arrive quicker than posting
Ok! here's an Idea. delete all 8,176 of my tpd post's just leave the one that reveals that Sasguru and Churchill are really ******* ****** *** ****** , agreed
That should be enough
LOL - I thought that would give you all something to help pass Friday afternoon. Honestly... If TPD is slow then it is slow, as long as it does not affect the rest of the forum or the main site (which is on this box too) then nothing will happen to it.
Will also look at optimising the server a bit over the weekend to see if page load time can't be improved. Must say the load time is really good from here but will see over the next week how things look before suggesting that optimizing the tables had any effect.

I'm sure the denizens would have a whip round if it becomes necessary to move TPD to a dedicated server
Well over the recommended sizes for page size, images and script size.
Total page size (main page) 130665 bytes.
The scripts ought to be minified with something like JSMin or YUI Compressor - that would speed things up.
Can't see that anything could be done about the images - with the exception of the logo, which is hardly massive anyway, they act as link icons, so they can't be shoved off into the CSS as background images without impairing accessibility.
The vBulletin CSS ought to be in a separate file brought in with <link> to allow caching, rather than inline in the <head> of the page.
One thing that would greatly reduce the page weight, and save CUK quite a bit on bandwidth costs, would be to rework the templates, getting rid of the excessive number of nested tables used for layout purposes, and controlling layout with CSS instead, as God (or at least the W3C) intended. (Although much of the content is indeed tabular in nature, so a search-and-replace wouldn't work )
However, most of these issues are presumably in the hands of the people who make vBulletin - I'm sure the admins wouldn't want to fix this stuff and then see it all break and have to be reworked every time a new version comes out
I'll see about reworking it using modern techniques when I've got time, just as a proof of concept - the admins could then file "crap markup" as a bug with vBulletin, if nobody else has already done so

I was going to suggest that if TPD is the only thing that is affected, then so what?
