You don't see firemen, or nurses, or paramedics etc parading around in uniform when they're off-duty, unless they're popping into the newsagents on the way home or something, and most of them are "front line heroes" on a daily basis. Air stewardesses should be encouraged though.
Nurses (and probably paramedics) are specifically not supposed to go wandering about in their uniforms, especially not just popping into the newsagents on their way home. The prohibition is something to do with preventing the spread of infections.

Well, yes, I presume we're talking about clean uniforms here. I don't suppose the soldiers wander round town with blood and guts smeared all over them.

Facitious. No, that was actually part of the joke.

It is not the squaddies fault that we are at war, the blame lies singularly with NL. Whether you agree with the war or not, the squaddies are doing their duty, or the job they signed up for. I am sure there are a number who also think what they are doing is wrong but will do their job to the best of their ability.
Our armed forces deserve our support.

I am no lover of the armed forces or of the war in Iraq (I have argued with Cpl spud a number of times on these issues).
I am not qualified to give the above advice!
