Imprisoned British Muslim students win terror appeal

I remember my friends and I looking in the school library for information on nuclear bombs. Should we have been locked up? I have an A-level in chemistry; I bet I could make some kind of crude chemical weapon if I wanted to. That and I didn't vote for Labour in the last general election. Oh my God! I'm a dangerous terrorist extremist. Take me away now. Will work inside IR35. Or for food. -
I think you misunderstood -you cannot use "researching" as a child porn defence, as the specific act of possessing- i.e. downloading is illegal.Originally posted by VectraMan View PostWhy shouldn't people be able to research? Okay child pornography is a bit of a difficult issue, but in the case of this so called extremist terrorist literature, who isn't curious about it now? I am: I'd like to read it. I'm sure I'd think it was nonsense written by people with little grip on reality, but I don't want the state making that decision for me.
The peace lovers were successful in their appeal because downloading Islam for Dummies is not a specific offence & in which case their "just researching "m'lud appeal was successful
& how come I know so much about this anyway?IHow fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't thinkComment

FFS never heard of the Jolly Rogers cook book? When I was at school everybody wanted t have a look at a copy and find out how to make explosives out of everyday items so that we could go down the fields after school and blow the crap out of cow pats....Originally posted by 51st State View PostThe understatement of the day. If you think there is any possible valid reason for child pornography then you need to see a doctor pal.
There are certain things that the state should, indeed, ban. For the safety of everyone. Terrorist manuals (which is what these flipers were looking at - i.e. how to make a bomb like that used is 7/11) isn't innocent research.
Simply looking at material can't be a crime, it only becomes a crime when you try to use the material to blow somebody up!!Comment

I didn't say that it should be criminalised - I specifically said it should be banned. Why make it so easy for 'em?Originally posted by Ardesco View PostFFS never heard of the Jolly Rogers cook book? People who don't agree can have no argument for when some crazed noob (of whatever religion) actually does use what they've seen.If she weighs the same as a duck, she's made of wood. And therefore a witch!Comment

You learn enough in chemistry lessons in school to maim plenty of people. Hell all you need is a big lump of sodium....Comment

Sounds like a Plan B!
Download some dodgy bomb-making material.
Laugh and joke about it on the internet, saying how you're going to blow up brownstuff. Hmmm, wonder where on the internet.
Await a knock on the door from some trainee MI5 numpty.
Go for a bit of a stay in a nice hotel, where Porridge is the programme and dish of the day.
Get freed by the courts.
Get a few million in compo.
Repeat if necessary.
The benefit scroungers have missed a trick there. Maybe I should leaflet drop the council estates. Where there's tulip there's money.Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it

I suppose the net step is to force ISP's to block these sites and ban anyone attempting to look at them. OMG isn't that what they do in China? No wonder GB doesn't complain about their human rights record.McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."
Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."Comment

Of course it is! I'm interested in explosives, improvised and otherwise. It doesn't mean I want to blow someone up! It just means I can...Originally posted by 51st State View PostTerrorist manuals (which is what these flipers were looking at - i.e. how to make a bomb like that used is 7/11) isn't innocent research.

We may also be conducting research into how to identify and disarm explosives, incase we're confronted with a bomb at 30,000 feet, that may not even be real. The bomb disposal unit are usually a bit late on the scene in those situations.Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it
