Why shouldn't people be able to research? Okay child pornography is a bit of a difficult issue, but in the case of this so called extremist terrorist literature, who isn't curious about it now? I am: I'd like to read it. I'm sure I'd think it was nonsense written by people with little grip on reality, but I don't want the state making that decision for me.

I think you misunderstood -you cannot use "researching" as a child porn defence, as the specific act of possessing- i.e. downloading is illegal.

The peace lovers were successful in their appeal because downloading Islam for Dummies is not a specific offence & in which case their "just researching "m'lud appeal was successful

FFS never heard of the Jolly Rogers cook book? When I was at school everybody wanted t have a look at a copy and find out how to make explosives out of everyday items so that we could go down the fields after school and blow the crap out of cow pats....

Simply looking at material can't be a crime, it only becomes a crime when you try to use the material to blow somebody up!!

We may also be conducting research into how to identify and disarm explosives, incase we're confronted with a bomb at 30,000 feet, that may not even be real. The bomb disposal unit are usually a bit late on the scene in those situations.
