Pub lice sector contracts are some of the greatest waste of taxpayers' money. I've worked on one in the past and what a waste of my life it was. The money was OK but the project was always doomed to failure... but 7 years on and they're still plugging holes and cementing over garbled code with more garbled code.

It was, of course, an EDS project at the time, which, of course, they lost to another consultancy.

As I said in a previous thread - only the most intellectually challenged people work for government. (not necessarily including contractors )

I wish the Taxpayers' Police would out all this waste of money.

        I concur.

And I went from a previous public sector role to a banking one, with no banking experience.

        So it is possible...

From what I've seen, the public sector is where all the oddballs end up. Sort of a care in the community programme.

That's true for the permies - you can spot them quite easily.

It's an ideal alternative venue if they ever remade the original Dawn of the Dead, without the fast zombies.

job is easy but you have to deal with Civil Servants, who mostly don't live in the real world and could never hold down a job in the public sector.

In my opinion the CS is full of either:

                    1, Lazy barstewards
                    2. Oddballs who are socially inept
My god, I fully agree with you - sack half of them and we would not notice the difference and cut the budget deficit!
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero

I assume you're talking in general terms now about the public sector. From a contractors point of view, the money is good and the work is reasonably interesting.

And of course there is always the argument of contributing to the greater good rather than some corporates bottom line (apart from your own Ltd obviously!)...
