I am extremely serious - all permies hate me because I don't waste my time to crack silly jokes all the time to cheer up their dull day. They also hate me coz I am performance oriented and rush to make things happen instead of postponing and planning and testing and deciding and wasting time.

Anyone who takes themselves (or other people) too seriously is guilty of extreme stupidity in a philosophical sense. None of us matter much in the great scheme of things. If we consider the billions of individuals who have been and gone, only a handful have changed anything in the sense of being a Newton or an Einstein (the only fame that matters IMHO).

I'm quite bad like that. I laugh and make a joke about things thet get me looked at in the:

"You didn't properly hear and comprehend what's just been said did you?"

kind of way..

Well a mate was talking to his new girlfriend tonight down the pub. She is still at Uni. He is visiting her at the weekend.

Him: So, are your friends coming out for a drink at the weekend when I come up to visit.
Her: No, everyone is going home this weekend to see their family but I'm staying behind, can you guess why.
Me: Because you're an orphan?

To me that's funny. Other people don't see it that way though.

It was possibly suggested by a long suffering mate that I am incapable of taking anything seriously. Which is partly true and partly false. Yes I do have a laugh and a joke pretty much 24/7 but also take stuff (relatively) seriously when needed.

Client contact walked up to me last week and said "Oh, good you're taking the piss.". I asked him why that was "Good" and he said "When you start to take the piss we know the works going well". Spookily accurate when you think about it....
