Too many think the world owes them a favour because they have a poor upbringing or aren't as bright as the next or come from a broken family or some other disadvantage which sad as it is, and understandably has affected them at different points in their lives, is not a green light to scrounge indefinitely.

Sure, we'll help you out for a bit, get you on your feet, that is exactly what the welfare system should be there for but the attitude is these days what's the point of working when you can get free handouts and play playstation all day.

Regardless of your student days (we’ve all been there) would you want to work for minimum wage in a carp job with no prospect of ever being able to afford a house?

No I wouldn't because I know I can get just as much / nearly as much in benefits from doing nowt.

If those benefits were suddenly reduced or started to taper off then I might think "Oh pants, I better lump it for a while in the hope that if I work really hard I'll get a promotion and earn something decent"

Why don't they just sell off all the council houses at market rates and subsidise rent for people who actually need it? If you're able to work, you should work until you have enough so you don't have to work anymore. That's how everyone else has to do it.

As for immigration, only allow in people with the skills you need. This whole live and work anywhere in Europe thing encourages more people to come to the UK and take advantage of the higher wages and benefits, and natives to move to Europe when they get sick of things here.

Just my opinion, obviously. I'm not British so I'm just working the system like everyone else...

No molly coddling in the form of a free house to live in, money to buy beer and gadgets and probably a weekend in spain every year.

I don't want to work in a crap job with no prospect of being able to buy a house, but if the option is do that or live on the streets I know what I would choose. The point is that if you have nothing it doesn't matter what you want, it's what you need. At the moment people living in a free house and getting everything bought for them dont *need* anything. With this in mind what motivation have they got to go out, find a job, work hard and become a productive member of society???

If they had to go out to work to be able to afford a TV/Beer/holidays/gadgets/etc. they probably would. We then wouldn't have this great influx of immigrants that everybody gets so up tight about because there would be no crap jobs for them.

As the credit tap dries up it exposes the underlying low value of labour. Large amounts of valueless money have masked the real poverty of the situation.

Most of them already do work, but they are still in a pretty hopeless situation. That the sentiment of popular press is that working class Brits are lazy doesn’t alter the fact that sections of society have been hit hard by mass immigration, while others have befitted enormously. No doubt this divide will even out eventually, not least because mass immigration can’t continue indefinitely, but in the meantime we have to suffer the propaganda and some actually believe in it.
