OK, here is another one for you - I don't even think the agent told the client I wanted a rate rise, I reckon she just pitched the extension (which was already in the bag).
I reckon this happens A LOT - contractor asks for more cash, agent doesn't want to upset client/discuss their cut so gives it a few days then gets back in touch saying yes you have the extra 3/6 months. They then wait for you to mention the rate request, or just accept the contract = job done.
My response was, that's great, what about the increase in rate ? the flustered response was, oh sorry, they are only looking to pay the same rate. In that case thanks but I will have to decline the extension.
Errrr, errrr, listen, let me talk to the client one more time and see what I can do....
You mean talk the first time you lying bint.
As I say, if you are prepared to walk, you can have some fun. Many times in the past I wasn't and had to suck it up but not this time !

      Luke my friend,

      calm down,

this is the world we live, agents not talking to client etc etc

If you are serious I would suggest you consider the following:

Findout who signs your invoices at the client

      Arrange a meeting with them

      Go there and discuss:

      thank you for the extension

      I am enjoying the work

these days things are different to when I started

When I joined your organisation I was a programmer

Now I have 30 people under me

I am responsible for these deliverables for these clients

And I am still getting the same rate as when I was a
      programmer

You must understand, I have asked the agency for
a rate rise to reflect the change in the role and responsibilities

Has the agency spoken to you about this ?

I wouldn't normally go direct and ask you these questions, but time
is going on and I am becoming anxious that this needs to be resolved
in a mutually satisfactory way for yourself and me

Have the agency spoken to you, and is there room for a rise to
reflect the role and responsibilities ?

      if yes...

then say, I don't want to go into details with you, that is for the agency,
but if you are agreeing in principle, would x percent be fair in your eyes...

      if yes,

      say thank you very much

      go phone your agency

      and voila

if no the agency did not speak to them AND no a rise is out of the question

THEN YOU KNOW WHERE YOU STAND WITH THE AGENCY AND CLIENT

stick where you are until you have something new

      this is business

nobody is getting one over you, nothing is personal, you are a businessman, a profession and this is business and you will deal with it professionally

      all the best,

      Milan.

This way you never get any time off as in the next contract they want you to start as soon as possible so no chance of taking a holiday, time off, and where is life? ops sorry I forgot this is Milan No-life Benes.

Besides some of us do more complicated jobs than tape changing so we really need periods of rest to refresh our minds.
I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.

Milan - Stop talking in bullet points. We know you struggle with the England language, but get a grip son.

To someone suggesting I have painted myself in a corner,
But its sound like the corner with the fire escape door.

            Tay,

thanks for the feedback, always welcome and always useful.

            Question:

            you wrote:

I must admit, that was a nice attempt at writing mother tongue England (oops, silly me I made the same non-native English speaker mistake as you), however your simple mistake gave yourself away

            where are you from ?

            Milan.

I do resent being called a dipshit by Milan of all people!!!

I imagine you know plenty of unsuccessful people Milan!

Personally, I think Cyberman hit the nail on the head - The secret is not to become a slave to money. Of course, Milan has no choice as tape changing doesn't pay that well...
