I've also turned down a renewal, after 5 in a row.

Sometimes a change is as good as a rest. Anything over 12 months on site (and this is well over) and I feel too much like a FTE.

And you have stuck to your principles, which is impressive. I have wanted not to renew for the last 2 , but hadn't the guts.

Not really, made me laugh actually.

Oi - bickering children - this is not your thread to ruin. Go back to your own thread and wreck it instead.

The opposite is indeed true. When you do everything right, nobody does understand where is your importance.

Whilst that may be true there was nothing in the original post that suggested they were looking to replace him. In fact IIRC an extension was offered. Due to the fact that the OP was not happy in the rate as his role had changed significantly I see no harm in pushing for an increase.

How can they not give you a rate rise if your now responsible for an extra 30+ people?
perhaps talking direct with the client regarding your request maybe more helpful, you
will also get more direct feedback and perhaps work out a compromise.

I know, they made it sound like they were doing me a big favour handing me an extension AND they want me on-call on a rota too. I am in a senior role but don't take the p!ss. I don't flatter myself I will cause more than a blip by going, virtually anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves (3 weeks later they have forgotten what you look like).
I take work seriously and you get a days work out of me but it works both ways or not at all.
To someone suggesting I have painted myself in a corner, yes I have but by my own choice, I am very experienced at playing the game and would not even consider playing hardball unless I was prepared to walk, anything else is a bluff and I wouldn't recommend it to most people !
I doubt this will be my last job, no matter what happens.
                      Good luck to all !
