too specialised? What is it military-based ? I can't think of a skill which would be England-only in IT...unless its related to football. Please enlighten.

Yep, that's what happens. 50% up front.Originally posted by cailin maith View PostIf you have been doing it for years, I am suprised that this is the first time you have had to make a payment on account.... not implying you are stpid, at all...
I have no opinion on whether it is fair or not to be honest. It's just the way it is.. first year is always the worst but next year you will only have to make a balancing payment and then the payment on account for the following year so wont be as big a hit....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

It's cos they want to punish anyone not on PAYE. And get the money earlier, of course.Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!Comment

Yikes......scary scenario.
I've been putting 0 on my PAYE, except the last quarter, where I declare the income and make the tax and NIC payments. Works just fine for me.McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."

hmm, I managed to keep myself below the threshold before... came as a rude shock! I think the amount is determined from your SA form, so how you structure the PAYE payments during the year doesn't make any difference AFAIKOriginally posted by lilelvis2000 View PostYikes......scary scenario.

You can send them a form to reduce your payments on account. Your accountant should have told you about it."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

I did reduce the payment; but that is when she then said that I would be charged the interest I was banging on about above.Originally posted by Moscow Mule View PostYou can send them a form to reduce your payments on account. But if you make an accurate estimate (not too hard) you won't get charged interest?"See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment
