Clearly more people drink that take drugs. Clearly alcohol is a more serious issue in the UK (Based on these stats). Where are out priorities?

I wonder what % of deaths per 100,000 are related to obesity?

I'm not going to be a hypocrite about it when they're older and 'just say no'. I'm certainly not going to encourage it either, but I want to feel like a) they're informed and b) they feel like they can come and talk to me about stuff like that. I'd have good advice - about what's sensible, and how to prepare etc. Might be repulsive to some of you but I'm also a realist on this one.

Im glad to hear someone else doing exactly what i plan to do if/when i have children. Well put snaw.

I think everyone agrees that experimenting without addiction isn't going to cause a problem.

The issue is if your daughter comes back and says her friend is getting into drugs, implying a more serious problem do you ignore it, or would you at least inform the parent.

IT isn't clear to me what is damaging or stupid about doing that.

Yes of course it might not be a drug problem, so is that a big problem. The parents go to their daughter say "have you got a problem", daughter says "no". I think the parents would notice if she was stoned all the time or just experimenting ocasionally.

the child has come to you in confidence, i would therefore speak with her and suggest you think that telling the girls parents is the best solution. I wouldnt just go and mention it. it WILL get back to your daughter that she told you who told them and therefore may have repercussions.

so, losing your childs confidence i'd say is a fairly terrible consequence for not keeping them in the loop.
