Sandy have you thought about maybe talking to your daughters friend.... maybe the threat of you telling parents teachers etc, might just snap her out of it.... or maybe I'm just being too simplistic.... you can't stand by though, you'd have a hard time forgiving yourself if something happened to her.Bazza gets caught

Shock horror - teenagers take cheap drugs!!!
Oh my god, they'll be having sex before marriage next!!
Sandy, Coke is no big deal, it really isn't. Just let this other lass get on with it. It's none of your business what she gets up to anyway - and you going to the school or her parents will really stitch your daughter up, aswell as this lass.
Most kids do it, most of them are fine. Much like drinking. The pope is a tard.Comment

Didn't David Contractor Junior tell us of his coke, champagne and hookers binges in Shanghai? Sounded like he was having a good time to me
Seriously though, I wouldn't be too shocked at a 17 year old doing a bit of Charlie. Most will grow out of it, the addictive personalities will get hooked to something at some time in their lives no matter what.Hard Brexit now!

Tough one, in my youth I did many things I probably shouldn't have, and generally speaking I had a great time doing them (Hey a bunch of us lived through the 90's, millions of people were/are doing similar stuff every weekend).
Most of the people I know who partook/partake all turned out ok, some of them in very respectable jobs, which no one would associate with drug taking. But there are a couple of casulties - one friend I know has a serious coke problem, then again he earns the kind of money you need to develop a serious coke problem - not a normal thing for most of us.
I don't really have advice as such, but just observations from my own experience which basically is that's in almost all cases I've seen people grow out of it, and even when they're on watever they're not inclined to jump out of buildings or all that stereotypical rubbish. 17 year olds experiment, it's part of life - you might disapprove but if you tell her parents what's that really going to achieve?Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

I get wound up by this topic. The complete prohibition approach means that people are uninformed.
The "all drug taking is bad" approach does not ring true, because it isn't, and then the children don't believe anything else you say on the subject.
In my experience there are two types of drug habit -
1. People that love life and are just using them to enhance it
2. People that are trying to escape life
People in the former category can avoid getting into difficulty, but they do have to be careful, we don't equip people with the information to be careful.
I don't have kids, but if I did, I would say this on the subject.
1. Do not inject.
2. Don't get caught.
3. Don't be the one that contacts the dealer because you do not want to be caught distributing the stuff to your mates.
4. Understand the consequences on your behaviour and only use when those consequences will not get you into trouble.
5. Have fun.
Now, I've finished that glass of wine, where's the rest of the bottle.Last edited by Gonzo; 16 December 2007, 19:17.Comment
