I do a bit of rowing, my advice is
1. forget the gym, unless you are totally committed you won't go often enough. The time you save in travelling, you could have one the workout at home
2. Splash out on a concept2 rower, it's the only one worth getting. It will cost £750 used or £1k new, BUT it won't lose it's value. If you pay £750 now, you wll sell t for £700-£750 next year
3. Check out www.concept2.co.uk for training plans, everything from weightloss to 2km racing.
4. Check out the Concept2 forum for more advice and motivation
5. Just get on and do something, anything, just do it. All the machines in the world won't get you fit unless you use them regularly,40min a day, 4 days a week min to see real improvement in fitness/weightloss
6. Running on the road is the cheapest exercise ever, £50 for a pair of trainers and your sorted
