"What is real. How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. This is the world that you know. The world as it was at the end of the twentieth century. It exists now only as part of a neural-interactive simulation that we call the CUK. You've been living in a dream world, Diver. This is the world as it exists today.... Welcome to the Desert of the Real. We have only bits and pieces of information but what we know for certain is that at some point in the early twenty-first century all of mankind was united in celebration. We marveled at our own magnificence as we gave birth to AI."Originally posted by Diver View Post
Face to face is real, this is all just an illusion and has no more bearing on reality than a fever induced dream.
If it's getting to you, Log off and come back when you wake up.I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.Comment

I gave birth to something this morning. It wasn't AI but it moved a bit before slinking off into the darkness...Originally posted by Francko View Post"... as we gave birth to AI."

Moscow Mule,

To wrap it all up, I think the 'lair generation amongst the membership need to toughen up a little
they've been to a _new_ university, got their degree in media studies, and now they're in the real world, if they want to be contractors then the best thing they can do is pull their socks up and get stuck in here because it will be the best preparation and support they can get for contracting life
it's not easy out there, it's not a holiday, always moving from one team to another, but if you can't take a bit of stick here, then how the hell are you going to survive as the external consultant moving from client to client team to team and always having to fit in as fast as you can, get people to warm to you, suss out who is who fend off the bullies in the team etc and get their respect and cooperation if you cannot even achieve such things in the virtual world ?

If we are to have a re-trail, can I ask that the sentence is increased?

Your Ferretedness,
some more considerations for Winston:
. Winston may appear to some to be a bully, but a bully to a the 'lair generation is simply someone who to the 'hatcher generation was direct and sharp in their responses
. however, over the years I have observed, if some is being bullied, Winston will be one of the first to come to their support and defense
. this is the virtual world, but some of here have been posting for a while and although we are not real world friends we are virtual world quite long term contactees and this begs the question, when you have been virtually in contact with somebody for so long, do you just behave like a fair weather friend and let them be tossed around at the mercy of others, or, do you step up and try to help ?
. I stand by my recommendation that the punishment dealt to Winston is too severe, and he should not have been given the same level of punishment as newbies who need a short sharp shock. Granted everyone must agree the dynamics of this forum are changing and the management want to bring things more into line with today's society as a whole, but on the back of that management must admit it is their fault things are like they are today, it is the management's fault we all got away with what we got away with for so long. Therefore, I am of the opinion that for older time served members, the punishments should be different to those for newbies, more gentle in the beginning and of course if that does not work the strength of the punishment should increase exponentially
. you must give Winston a retrial before he has enough and does not return
