Makes you worry that maybe they haven't quite got this whole information age thing, in which case WTF are they doing having responsibility for this kind of information?
Monumentally stupid and incompetent doesn't come close to describing this.
Remember this is England. Long gone are the days when we ruled mathematics, physics, industry. We're all to used to invading countries as make-work projects or were desperate to get onto Celebrity. Technlogy is something the Indians use innit?McCoy: "Medical men are trained in logic."
Spock: "Trained? Judging from you, I would have guessed it was trial and error."Comment

I suspect SKA hasn't indexed this page yet for you Alex, so I'll let you off.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Rather unbelievably I worked on the system that was meant to replace the current Child Benefit system, but it got canned about a year into the project due to technical challenges that proved to difficult to resolve. I'm sure they regret not continuing a bit now.. This system would have had an interface with Audit over a secure connection, just like another system has, for which I personally tested this very interface. I know exactly what the records would have looked like, indeed just comma-separated records for every event worth auditing. Newsnight on now, should be interesting indeed..Comment
