I rent in Docklands during the week and go home Friday night. You'll quickly tire of hotels and if you get a 6 month contract it's just as economic/much better for you than staying in a hotel. Budget hotels are horrible, soulless places. I pay £1050 per month in rent (I'm on a good rate) but it's all deductible. My flat has a gym/pool/sauna on the complex - you wouldn't get that at a Travellodge, plus the complex has an active sports/social club. For food I shop on Monday lunchtime for the week and that costs me around £30 which is one night's dinner in a hotel (if you're lucky).

    IR35 caught? Nope.

I worked in Victoria London for 2 years up until April this year. I used to commute home every day 4 hours in total.

I was able to work on the train coming home so could leave a little bit earlier plus First Class on Virgin west coast line is very nice. Used to stay over in victoria one night a week on behalf of the client and that was enough after a while.

Rate has no bearing on IR35 status
Thats the way the cookie crumbles

For short contracts outside of the Summer tourist scrum I can recommend one option which doesn't get mentioned often. Youth Hostel. No, listen... Most of the London Youth Hostels are in superb locations. The St Paul's YH is just across the road from the cathedral, for example. The Thameside one is at Canada Water, one stop away from Docklands.

They have laundry facilities and internet access and (most of them) a self-catering kitchen. Breakfast is often included too.

What I guess some people can't handle is sharing a room, but you get a lockable locker (take own padlock) and you only have to crawl in there when you're ready to sleep, so no big deal as far as I'm concerned. They are clean and spacious, big showers etc. And of course you get to meet people, which doesn't tend to happen in hotels. I find hostels a lot less depressing than hotel rooms anyway.

And you won't find £20 a night smack in the middle of London anywhere else.

I couldnt find any suitable accomodation in the whole of London so i built my own hotel exclusively for me.

            are you mad?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

It's just a 1 bed flat on the Isle of Dogs - There's plenty of them about for around £250 per week.

I'm too old and set in my ways to share etc.

Why work at all. A friend of mine is on the dole and gets his one bedroom flat near Swiss Cottage paid for - £260/week housing benefit: that's £13,500 pa + £60 week spending money + council tax paid for. It's a no brainer.
