I would not support any ban on fireworks, but I would support making November the 5th a holiday to encourage people to have their fireworks on that day rather than spreading it across two or more weeks.
My reply was a little tongue in cheek but essentially you are right - the firework effect goes on for much longer nowadays. There's also some Muslim festival as well (Eid?) around this time.
I think next week is Diwali as well, so the Hindus will be celebrating too.
