Personally, I think the Minister needs to get down off his high horse and stop playing the race card for his own motives.
During the IRA campaign, Irish nationals were specifically singled out for additional stop and search checks ? Why ? Because the majority of the terrorists were IRISH (and White btw). Whilst the Irish did complain about this, I don't seem to recall anyone harping on about their skin colour in to it as well.
Look, it's really quite simple.
If people of a certain creed, colour and religion become fanatical enough to terrorise others and ensure they get the most publicity for their actions, then is it any wonder the security services will want to focus their attention on people who meet such criteria ?
And the above statement applies to the IRA (a religious / political terrorist organisation)
Now apply it to Al-Qaeda (a religious / political terrorist organisation)
Let's pretend that in 5 years time, a new religious / terrorist organisation surfaces in the UK.
They firebomb churches, shops, schools, the underground. All their members are Chinese Nationals.
Who are the Police going to focus their stop and search on ?
Welsh Grandmothers ? Cornish Pixies ? AtW ?

Al-Qaidea has long ago determined that no-one with brown skin, a muslim name will have success - I think they are now focusing on other methods. Its good to maintain vigil - but also recognise the enemy knows what you are looking for.

I understood there was an international agreement that exempted diplomats and government officials from this kind of thing. We do not stop and search the equivelant Americans, surely our chaps have a right to expect the same from the Yanks?
I have been flying week in week out for nearly the last 10 years since the 9/11 nastiness I get random stopped every 3rd flight or so either for a metal detector sweep or a bag sniffer.
Last time I looked fat bearded northerners were not commiting acts of terrorism but I don't kick up a fuss because ultimately (however poorly executed) these measures are for my safety.I am not qualified to give the above advice!
