Finally freed the frigging thing at 1a.m. Deep joy.

Couldnt get the last bit of netting off its leg though coz it wouldn't cooperate...

    Ho hum.

And you should see the scratches coz the frigging bush thing has 3 inch thorns...

The mantra of all hedgehogs everywhere...

Where have all the good men gone and where are all the gods?
Where's the great white Hercules to fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what i need

    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast
and gotta be fresh from the fight
    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
He's gotta be sure and he's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
    Larger than life

    Somewhere after midnight
    In my wildest fantasies
    Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a Superman to sweep me off my feet

    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast
and gotta be fresh from the fight
    I need a hero

He's gotta be sure and he's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life
    Larger than life

I the mountains neath the heavens above
Out where the lightning strikes the sea
I can swear that there's someone somewhere watching me
Through the wind and the chill and the rain
and the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach like a fire in my blood

    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night
he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be fast
and gotta be fresh from the fight
    I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero till the morning light
He's gotta be sure and he's gotta be soon

Well done anyway...I'm sure it was worthwhile when he toddled off.

And yes - they make a lot of noise - you can normally hear them snuffling about on a summer's night, finding food - make a real racket.

If you see him about again - or in the daylight - it might be a sign he's unwell. They recommend if it happens, weigh them, and if they're too light, they won't have enough food to hibernate - so you can feed em up a bit.

I'm a bit concerned about the bit of netting I couldn't get off its leg... however, not much to be done about that now...

When I was little, I was told that you should leave a saucer of milk out, with some bread in it, for the hedgehogs.

What no-one told me was that you should only do that if you want to kill them.

Well done zeity, I salute you for saving this creature in your PJs on a freezing night.

I once saved a hedgehog that I found looking very lost wondering around on the pavement snuffling at things. It surely would have been attacked by a fox or cat or something so I made a makeshift glove out of a nearly empty tabacco packet, picked him up and put him in my garden just down the road.
It's about time I changed this sig...

Confessions time; I taught a squirrel about road safety on Friday night in the hire car. It made a refreshing "squelch" noise.

For some strange reason reading that word has cheered me up.

I think it should be used more often.

I found my neighbours pit bull eating a hedgehog alive, blood all over it's face crunching through the thing, innards everywhere.

I'm glad they moved away recently.
