McClaren for the Chop

He would gain the instant respect of all the players, and he would play to their strengths. It might not be pretty at times, but he is a winner and would love the press. -
If England fail to qualify for Euro 2008, the FA will not be able to afford Jose. In fact they may end up with some big financial problems.
It's not just the tournament TV and sponsorship money they stand to lose. There will be lots of friendlies lined up in the run-up at Wembley, probably against South American teams. The FA will expect a sell-out plus TV rights to Sky and advertising etc. But I can't see 90,000 England fans paying £45 to see a bunch of also-rans.Cats are evil.Comment

Maybe the chance of working with Terry and Fat Frank again is just too much to resist. Stranger things have happened.Originally posted by Bluebird View PostI'm not so sure, he loves publicity [ more than any other england manager in the past ] - perhaps its a perfect fit...
He wouldn't be put off by the press, I think the only thing that would stop him doing it is knowing the crap players he's have to work with...
I'd prefer someone with a track record of turning mediocre players into a good team - until he went to Villa, Martin O'Neill would have been my choice, given his record in club management.
Hiddink did it with Korea, but he's tied to the Russian job for a long time now.Comment

With Porto he might have introduced a "few" dirty tricks, but his home record with both Porto and Chelsea was unbelievable...
Whether the FA can afford him, sometimes you need to spend big to win big.
I would put him on a 6 year contract and hopefully we could do a WC and EC doubleComment

They can't afford to sack McClaren and employ Jose unless the qualify, as it's too expensive. In which case, they can't sack McClaren, since he's done his job (albeit badly along the way).Comment

International management is a far cry from club management - especially in England.Originally posted by FiveTimes View PostO'Neill is a good manager but Jose wins, and keeps winning...

For at least ten months of the year, Mourinho would have no control over his players, their training, their tactics, their resting/selection for club games, or anything else. He would only have a dozen games a year, and must get results in every one while at the same time trying to mould a team.
None of this fits his modus operandi.
Expectations among fans and the press in England are unrealistic. In addition, he got upset about press intrusion on his personal life when his dog got in the news. He ain't seen nothing yet if he takes the England job.
He doesn't need the money, so remind me, why would he take this job, and if he did, why will he be more successful than the dozen that preceeded him?Comment

Don't be so deluded. We are not going to win anything, regardless of the manager, unless the whole system is changed.Originally posted by FiveTimes View PostI would put him on a 6 year contract and hopefully we could do a WC and EC doubleHard Brexit now!

Deluded is one thing I am not, I think at best England have one maybe two world class players, while others think we have the best team in Europe.Originally posted by sasguru View PostDon't be so deluded.
