Then Arthus Scargill and his cohorts, instead of using the miners as useful idiots that he could use to fight his ideological battle with Thatcher, maybe he should have devised a strategey whereby we could have been persuaded that keeping mining was in the best interests of the UK.
Agreed! I wish the miners had won, with Scargill being replaced. I admire him for how far he took it, but he did wreck their chances in the end... too bloomin' vain to drop his Commie ideology for the sake of the men and communities.

The problem is this country alone has not experienced really bad times economically. The US had the depression, the Germans had the rampant inflation in the Weimar Republic, and almost all other countries had their economies ravaged by war.
The problem is we have it coming because we're too complacent. Only the other day Lucy described this economy as a powerhouse. Made me chuckle.
