My Fiancée has more of an issue with me when I spend! Seriously - I was burning money last week, taking her out on the town shopping/restaurants/weekend away and she kept on hesitating ('but it's expensive' etc...) when I wanted to treat her a bit.
What will be will be - you may be on 70k now but all could change in an instant, live comfortably and enjoy yourselves. What'll happen when you hit a dry spell? Sounds like she's a tad materialistic.
Thing is her parents dont seem madly wealthy. They are posh and everything - big house but not a mansion, holiday home... but nothing else seems extravagant.
Like everyone I'd love to earn bucketloads but you've got to have things in perspective. I earn a good salary. No problems with money and I'm happy with that.
I told her this and that if she wanted more than that then she'll have to earn it herself.

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
