So what exactly has Jamil El-Banna done wrong that he should receive such treatment?

As I understand it most never had a proper review of their case but that does not mean the US was wrong to think they were. Will there now be that proper review? If the review suggests the threat is probably real (and it does NOT have to be proven since we have no obligations to foreign citizens) they should be left where they are or deported.

I suspect in reality that the government's first duty, the safety of its citizens, will as usual be subordinated to the perverted PC view of human rights* and they will simply be freed in the UK with no proper checks done. I further predict, since I doubt the US suspicions were wrong on all of these cases, that some will prove a threat in the future.

So If Jamil El-Banna is guilty because the US captured him?

The Spanish government are seeking his extradition from Guantanamo as part of an investigation into Al-Qaeda’s activities in the country. People are not just arrested at random. Doing a bit of research, it says here the US have cleared him for release anyway.

Hell, I don't have the inclination to trawl the net for information on this man. I'm sure there are a few innocent casualties in the war on terror, it's possible false intelligence led to his arrest. That's a tragedy of course, but in no way does it mean we should extend our sympathies to Guantanamo detainees in general, especially not the ones in this mob with proven terror links.

So you have no idea whether Jamil El-Banna has done anything at all and don't give a damn. I don't understand how someone doesn't give a toss. You don't care why someone does. I'm just glad I'm not you. Go back to your virgin Mary inspired paranoias about Russia.

I have faith in the ability of the American intelligence services not to pick out random Muslims. I'm sure they didn't just draw his name from a hat. But I also accept that in a war situation, there are also innocent casualties, although saying that it's better to be vigilant rather than not acting on intelligence.

Guantanamo bay is an aberration. It shouldn't exist, we have to do these things properly.

However I suspect the 'British' gentlemen residing there are not exactly pure. This seems to be the result of our complete lack of control of our borders and handing out passports to all and sundry combined with cynical exploitation of our good nature.

We should get involved and confirm there is sufficient evidence to convince us he is truly guilty. If he is then why shouldn't Spain have him? Lets send Hamza to Egypt/Jordan while we are at it he doesn't want to live here.

I may be wrong and all the people there are really innocent travelling brush salesmen whose only hope for survival was to claim asylum on the opposite side of the world in the UK because no other country was safe. They then were forced to travel to Gambia due to the countries desperate need for brushes where the wicked US government wasted millions of dolars abducting him and transporting him to a high security facility reserved for terrorists because he looked a bit shifty. But it does hardly seem credible.

Greg's right, these people were probably just on a pony trekking holiday in Afghanistan and are completely innocent. I for one am happy for my taxes to provide them with housing and free benefits for life so I can alleviate my post-colonial guilt and look right-on in front of my coloured friends.

I reckon Greg is actually our old mate Tony Blair and he's thinking of the kerrrching his missus is going to make fighting the worlds "Human Rights" cases at the tax payers expense.

Either that or some fully paid up cardie wearing Liberal lentil munching Guardian reader with middle-class guilt syndrome living in La La land.
