DA - did the guy actually hand in his notice and then perhaps got a better offer to stay? I've had to do that with a couple of the better ones I've got. That would be fair enough, but he should then have immediately informed you of the change of plan.Hard Brexit now!

I'm surprised no one has asked DA about this sudden opening he has for a contractor!

When I moved into contracting from my permie job I was also required to give 4 weeks notice. I guess I was fortunate to find a client prepared to wait for me.
The agency stayed in regular contact during that time and furthermore I also requested to be put in touch with the client. During the 4 week notice period I ask the client to send me documentation to enable me to get up to speed and hit the ground running. I guess the agency saw this contact as a good thing too.
You can tell if a guy isn't motivated to move jobs. The signs are clear to see.
It's a huge decision for a permie to go contracting, so you are bound to get problems from many of them. Contractors typically won't give you similar problems.Comment

These are questions that were never asked which is why I am more angry with myself (for not having the processes in place to check) and my account manager (now resourcer). Once we had the signed contracts returned the rest was assumed- big mistake.Originally posted by sasguruDA - did the guy actually hand in his notice and then perhaps got a better offer to stay? the problem was there were no signs, and no effort was made to look for signs.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment
