At least a few years ago I could have a decent debate with the right wing nutjobs who frequented, even if I didn't agree with them. Somehow a few pseudo neo nazi types starting hanging about, and a few intelectual midgets joined them. Add the trolls and the place just became tedious.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

1. No profanity or obscenities of any kind, even written back to front or disguised with asterisks etc.
2. Be nice to each other - no personal attacks on other users.
3. Defamatory, obscene, indecent, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening and harassing comments are not tolerated.
4. Do not stray from the discussion topic.
I'll be happy to try and do number 1, although I'd like a list of what is deemed a sware word and what isn't. For example, I'd imagine the strong C word is bad, and obviously the F word. But are we allowed to say feck? Or Crap? (I was allowed to say that when I was 10, and my mam is pretty strict!)
Buggar is fairly tame, but I guess its swaring...I'd just like to know.
With regards to number 2, I genuinely like 99% of people on this board, but I sometimes have p1ss taking banter with them (oops - there I go already. I'm guessing p1ss isn't allowed either then?) and if an Admin looks at one particular post and see's me and someone else name calling, they might not realise it's in a genuinely nice way. Lets not forget EO got banned the last time for allegedly being nasty to me, when we're actually really good mates and there was nothing malicious in it. I grew up with lads - it was just the way we comunicate with each other, and its nearly always sign of affection in my book. But to the outsider it can seem like personal attacks I guess.
3 - yes most of them are bad, but lewd....lewd is quite fun surely! Why cant we be lewd? And again, insulting is in the eye of the beholder surely? I'd hate this site if we couldn't take the p1ss out of AtW, or watch SAS holding his own in his daily fights, or me having fat jokes, or mocking Churchy's masonic ways, etc etc. Theres nothing wrong with that - it's human nature, and makes for the good community spirit of this site.
4 is just ridiculous however. And I think if Scotspine decides to ban everyone who strays off topic there will actually be noone left on here.
Anyway, thats just my 2 pennith. I reckon if all of the rules get obeyed to the letter then I'll be away - there'll be no fun left on here. Such a shame - it's been such a brilliant community to be part of, and I've enjoyed every minute.
And if I get banned for this post, I'll see yous on cc.net or whatever it's called.

so where do you draw the line between 'lewd' and pornographic? and would your line be the same as my line? at what point does 'lewd' become unacceptable. when it involves donkeys? unless a line is drawn early on, posts which begin with oblique references to 'soft porn' usually/often quickly become littered with pornographic trash - and worse. i prefer to draw the line early on. that has been made clear repeatedly to the point of i am tired making it. if you're in doubt, don't post it. if it contravenes the t&c, don't post it. certainly, keep it out of the 'general' forum. 'light relief' was created a couple of years ago for this express purpose - i guess a lot of recent posters who seem keen to take on the role of board adjudicator are unaware of this. it is also clear that a few posters like to walk close to the line. i can put up with that for only so long, especially as their posts frequently engender further posts from people who have no such niceties [sic], thus giving me more work to do.
this isn't rocket science. behave or you will be banned from posting.Comment

"....lewd is quite fun surely! Why cant we be lewd?"
- there are people who would use that to justify paedophilia. good grief, this isn't an 'adult' site.
"4 is just ridiculous however. And I think if Scotspine decides to ban everyone who strays off topic there will actually be noone left on here." - when have i ever done that?
wake up sa! and congrats on your case btw.Comment

SP - in ref to my post in TPD - I think straying off-topic is acceptable in many cases, and that the banning is inconsistently applied, and that warnings should be given first.
What are your thoughts?Comment

Well its the difference between a dirty joke or a bit of harmless smut versus posting a link to some lass giving a blow job.
Yes that whole donkey punch thing was bad, and people who started threads abotu it shoudl have been banned, but then it became a bit of a joke and people mentioning it shoudln't be banned cause it became funny.
I know your job is hard Scotspine - you're like the unsung hero really, and get no thanks for it....but I think we're all just feeling very told off, upset about the unecesary banning of board favourite El Duder, and generally a bit "crisps p1ssed on" at the momentThe pope is a tard.Comment

I think the issue is the inconsistency of the bans. We all understand the t&c's, even though we all go off from time to time but the inconsistency is confusing.
Maybe banning people is not the answer...doesn't seem to help.

I would be better if people had to pay to join CUK and if you are banned you lose your joining fee.
