Gollywogs used to be the naughty ones who were always up to mischief. That was obviously heinous racism teaching all of our children that black people were all thieves and not to be trusted and caused many racist problems once said children grew up.

I remember reading them and I thought the books were great when i was a nipper. I never made a connection between gollywogs and black people either. What the PC morons fail to realise is that skin tone is not something that children are generally speaking that aware of until they get older and adults start sticking thoughts about skin colour into thier heads.

I remember being a young boy and going down to the pakki shop to buy popadums for my grandmother. Everybody in the village knew the place as the pakki shop, we all went in and spent money in there and got a wonderful service from a very nice man and none of us meant pakki in a derogatory or evil way. If that had been today we would have all been strung up from the rafters and branded as evil racist scum not worthy of living in society...

A lot of the words and images (i.e. gollywogs) that are seen as evil today were perfectly innocent 25 years ago, is this the fault of the racists or the PC morons who keep banning words that could be seen as offensive before anybody has complained about them...

I remember watching a TV program where a black man was beinf told of by a PC teacher because he said his son was black. She was giving him a damn good ticking off telling him that he should be calling his son coloured because calling his son black was racist and demeaning..... PC gone mad

Well in that case we should ban the screening of any episodes of Dad's Army just in case the Corporal Jones reminds us that "them fuzzy wuzzies, they don't like it up 'em, you know"

          No!

I want to make that choice myself, not have some PC Ninny tell me what I should think!

Too much of our lives involves telling people how to think, what to do and not enough giving them the responsibility of their actions. Don't give me any PC Claptrap either. I'm perfectly capable, as are most people, making my own mind up.

Agreed when it comes to adults! But come on - these are kids books. We cant have them telling our kids that Aficans are savage, monkey looking imbeciles! If it was just one character, then fair enough. But I think it referes to the whole of the Congo region.

The thing that exasperates me is that the PC lobby don't actually seem to represent any suppressed minority when they insist upon these ridiculous changes. Rather some non-existent utopian society.

So many times I've heard the allegedly victimised minority group in question say something along the lines of: "Umm, we're not actually offended. We can see <the issue> for what it is, and you're actually making it harder for us to be accepted because you are stirring up ill-feeling amongst the majority group."

So who exactly are they representing? No one I've ever met.

The only people that get offended by crap like this are numpties who aren't happy unless they've got something to get on their high horse about.

Do they employ someone to go around checking historical literature for retrospective slights. FFS in a few years many things we say now will be unacceptable. Soon everyone will have to hesistate before the speak or write anything perhaps runing it by some leftie sh1tbag first!
I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?
