I have never understood why more contractors, if they are not interested in someone don't decline more lunch invitations. I could not bear to spend an hour or two with someone who is not of any interest to me, unless it was for business. Some contractors are so pathetic that the "free lunch" is more important than spending lunch time on say CUK.Originally posted by Let-Me-InI wouldn't go because I am slightly more picky about my lunch partners....Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

Had lunch with my pimp - my agency is pretty good so I went ahead. She was open enough beforehand to say that she wanted to understand the client better. I'm new to contracting and wanted to understand how pimps operate - how many CVs they receive, how many they put forward, how to improve your chances of getting to interview. Fair exchange of info and a good lunch.Originally posted by PrinceNamorIn the process of securing a new contract and pimp wants to take me out for lunch next week. I've been offered this from other agencies in the past but always declined. I think I will do it this time and drink myself into a stupor at the pimp’s expense. Any of you guys and girls been wined and dined by pimps?Comment

I suggested the Ivy for lunch to my pimp when I get renewed again with him having to do feck all, only fair I feel. Got fobbed off though. 1st Time - contracting some years ago in Wellingborough (never again) she said she was coming down to take me and the ops manger out for a meal. She turned up a bit stewed and ignored me so I walked. Interestingly enough the guy who got me the next contract drove up to Wellingborough, took me out to lunch and I signed there and then.
2nd Time - contracting just outside Munich. She turned up, said hello and spent the whole time talking to the PFY desktop weenies. Walked.
3rd Time - doing a 2 week contract in the city and the guy came along and took me to a nice Indian lunch with loads of beers and we had a great time. They tried their hardest to get me more work, paid straight on time but never found me anything. Shame.
4th Time - couple of weeks ago they had their summer barbeque. Popped along, very nice but pretty much ignored as everyone seemed to know everyone else so I went back to my hotel
I work for a lot of other companies, software houses, business partners, etc. and they're always taking me out for lunch and dinner so I deal more and more with them.“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

I never ever renew without being bought lunch. Most agents seem amazed that more contractors do not ask - they are only too happy to oblige.Comment

The only times I've met agents they've spent the whole time talking about how much money they're earning, what car they're getting next, where they've just been on holiday, where they're going on holiday, how much their houses cost.. Bit like you lot, really!
