Absolute tosh. There are sufficient grounds for denial - the fact there isn't a shred of evidence for the existence of the supernatural being called "God".
In fact there is as much evidence for "God's" existence as the tooth fairy or the flying spaghetti monster (i.e. zilch, zip, nada, zero) , so you might as well believe in those too or any other imaginary human construct.

Atheists who 'disbelieve' in any notion of a god could therefore be called fundamentalists.

Fundamentalism is a term to describe a how literal someone takes a particular philosohpy. Atheism is like pregnancy, it's either yes or no. There is no radical or 'a little bit' of an atheist. The name for someone who belives in a supernatural being is agnostic.
