I tell you why it is Troll, it's because in the UK it is impossible to raise investment for long term business plans requiring large upfront capital investments such as manufacturing
"You say the Germans are good at making things - but the Japanese & Koreans... and now the Chinese, all in a short period of time acquired the skills to compete, yet we were happy to let manufacturing skills and infrastructure go?"
There's a reason I'd buy German before Japanses or Korean, quality and pedigree, something not acquired in a short period of time.

not only that it keeps the wealth in the European region WHICH IS MOST IMPORTANT ! Feeding European workers who then buy other European goods.
Milan.
How do you know they won't buy Japanese? Or indeed that the Japanese won't buy European? We're not in the 19th Century you know - but I suppose in your tape changing basement these facts have bypassed you?
the majority of products sold in the Lidl's all over Europe are made in Germany
I have been amazed by Lidl in Germany, they put the German flag on the stuff made in Germany,
German's are acutely aware of the benefit of buying their own goods
Walk down any street in a German city and count what % of the cars are German made or derived (derived I include Skoda/Seat etc)
sorry to harp on about Germany but the fact is their manufacturing base gives their economy a concrete foundation
With 60 million consumers in the UK why can't the German model be followed and goods manufactured in the UK to server the UK population and export worldwide
Lumping japanese and korean together is plain wrong. And all the stats show Japanese cars are more reliable than German ones
but.. my eastern made Dr martins are more reliable than my russell and bromley's, still I buy them... I think there more to the commercial market than reliability.

One German guy I know is about to buy Japanese car, he said that Germans can't afford to buy expensive German cars. But surely production of same cars but with Skoda brand should fix this problem.
