Cheers for that..Ofocurse I don't intend to travel to Kent from Midlands.....trying to find a peaceful ,leafy location(may be a village even) thats close to the happening places in the UK in terms of IT. -
I was talking about commuting the other way if you lived in Kent. Anyway, good luck in your search.Originally posted by aj1977Cheers for that..Ofocurse I don't intend to travel to Kent from MidlandsComment

Hopefully Brighton will prove to be a good base. Only 1 hour to London and about the same to Berkshire / M4

I know what you mean but if you want to work in the City or Canary Wharf long term you are better off living to the East and on a line that goes into either Liverpool St. or Fenchurch St and walk from there.Originally posted by wendigo100The problem is not so bad if you live near the western M25 because there don't seem to be that many jobs that require you to go the other way, to the east of London.
Then you don't need to piss about with long tube journeys, which are a nightmare, especially in the summer.
I agree getting to the west is then a pain. I never intend working in Slough or Reading, but it puts time on a visit to the west country.
I nearly bought in Sevenoaks in Kent a couple of years ago.
To the south Oxted in Surrey is not a bad little place to live. Still too far from the M4 corridor though. (Oxted and Sevenoaks lines can get you into London Bridge which is also good for the City).Last edited by GreenerGrass; 8 May 2007, 07:51.Comment

Has to be Glossop or Holmefirth, midway between Manchester, Leeds and Shefield.
Lots of northern contracts in commuting distance, good quality of life, reasonable cost-of-living.Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!Comment

But not Reading.Originally posted by wendigo100I nearly said Slough.
Reading is in the M4 / Thames corridor, and in easy reach of London and Heathrow. It is also has good rail links to the South, the West, the West Midlands, and the North West.
There's also a lot of nice places to live around Reading.Comment

I live in the SE of England. My commutes so far have been:Originally posted by DiestlScotland is good if you like long periods on the bench, 90% fake job ads and permie only jobs.
via Heathrow
via London City
via Gatwick
via Luton
via Birmingham International.
I don't see what would be lost by commuting
via Glasgow
via Edinburgh
via Prestwick
or even
via Aberdeen or
via Inverness.
except the 1 1/2 hour (plus) journey segments to the airports. Most of Scotland is within 90 minutes of an airport, so I could live anywhere.God made men. Sam Colt made them equal.Comment

How about Downing Street??Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your lifeComment

Not bad about 10 years ago but Glossop is a traffic disaster zone to compete with the best of them !?Originally posted by portsevenHas to be Glossop or Holmefirth, midway between Manchester, Leeds and Shefield.

I'm on the M6/M62 between Liverpool and Manc which also has enough contracts to keep you gainfully 'employed' but the traffic is approaching M25 (Glossup!) levels.Last edited by rootsnall; 8 May 2007, 09:27.Comment
