Certainly cheap, some of it was reasonable quality compared with other manufactures (i.e. Sinclair).

The Amstrad wordprocessor thingie was quite cleverly designed. The bios code was in the gate array, so no boot eprom. Quite clever for 1985(ish)

Seemed to do the job ok to me... though the 1512 CGA screen was painful. At £1200 it was a bargain at the time compared with the competition.
