We really need to clean up the agency system in this country. Here is my five point plan:
1) Set up a regulator funded by a 5% mandatory contribution of turnover from every agency.
2) Regular three year assessment leading to a grading of each consultancy. The higher the grading the lower the levy. Can be used to market services to corporate clients.
3) Compulsory degree education for every recruitment consultant. Professional qualifications potentially lead to a reduction in the levy.
4) Prohibit advertising of non-existent positions, encourage disclosure of margin, prohibit CV trawling. Regulator has the power to fine agencies who do not adhere to these regulations
5) Set up a complaints procedure for grievances against agencies. Financial compensation possible through fines levied by the regulator.
It is not perfect, but it a start - we need to create a market which rewards service rather than just the financial gain of the reccon.
