Doom: state pension age to rise again

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...-b2267979.html

Supposedly this would 'bring in billions' ...

I wonder how many folk work - indeed are able to work - until state pension age.

And didn't I read that UK life expectancy was falling?

Thats part of the plan, either make people drop dead from work in old age, or die in poverty because they got no pension income.

That's old news. It's been on the cards since about the late 90s.

The main problem has been that due to events of 2016 the government hasn't got around to forcing the relevant legislation through parliament.

Basically if you live in Glasgow, Blackpool or the East London you won't get a state pension as a man as you will be dead before then. There as if you live in Wokingham, Rutland or West London you will live many healthy years into retirement.

And yes UK life expectancy particularly healthy life expectancy is falling.

On the upside, you don't need to live in Glasgow, Blackpool or East London longer than absolutely necessary.

If they are high earning part time consultancy. Plenty of friends have retired and work a few days a week and take weeks/months off.

Sadly hard labour won't be a good career in this case. Though very fit people will be fine.

And the remaining 99.9% of the 65+ olds will do something else?

well there you go its sort of a problem for the government to fix.

The ones still working in trades just do smaller jobs.

Painter / decorator he does 2-3 day jobs every week he wants to work.

Taxi Driver does the school run / back & forth to work not late nights.

If you do a desktop you can still do it at 70. Though to be fair I know/knew shopkeepers and builders who are working in their 70s, 80s and even 90s. Though the 90 year old works with his children who are retirement age as well and doesn't work all year round. (interestingly the older ones were children during the WWII.) Apparently some bus drivers are in their 70s, and lots of doctors use to work in their 70s and early 80s before the government screwed up NHS pensions and other factors.

However if you are an electrician, plumber, etc where your job involves lots of crawling in narrow spaces and/or working in damp conditions, or are a teacher, or nurse then you won't be fit enough to work.
