    A Bank vs Paddy

At trial counsel for the bank, red faced asked for an adjournment by consent after I questioned the authenticity of an alleged computer printout.
I asked three times whether the entries were true and correct specifying particular entries; the bank swore they were correct. Then I pointed out there is no such date a 31st April nor is there a 31st September therefore the entries were manually typed to make up evidence. The bank now wants to settle out of court.

Listen to their offer and take advice before countering.
Unless it's an absolute slam-dunk, you may be better to take an out of court settlement, as the other side may turn round and claim that they tried to settle but you were the one who pushed for more (at which point a judge might not award you costs, or may also make you pay the bank's costs), so take advice from your legal team on how far to push it.
And if you settle out of court, make sure there are no restrictive clauses put in place about the settlement.
