Anybody who is more than 180 days in this country should pay taxes, in fact plenty of precedents when people who only visited this country for week or two were forced to pay taxes here because they had strong connection to the UK.
I don't think many on here are arguing that shouldn't be the case, but unfortunately current legislation is different. This shower (or a variant of it) has been in power since 2010 and haven't changed the legislation. Some people are up in arms about the rules, and yet will still vote Tory knowing that these are their rules.

Don't know who you voted for last time, but if it was Tory then I'm afraid you are complicit in this so can't really complain.

Do you not see a conflict of interest in the person whose job it is to change the rules also benefitting to the tune of £4m per year from those same rules?

AtW was giving money to a party and it wasn't the Tories.

Same tulip was under Labour, which wasn't right back then, but this Tory Scum takes the piss - it's not even backbencher but the person who is fecking directly responsible for tax laws!

Not living permanently my arse - 182 days a year should be strict red line (make exception for genuine foreign students maybe)

We are on the same side.

She isn't supportive of his career, even if it isn't a life long one, considering she is his closest family member.

I thought the point of marrying someone is that you supported them especially if you agreed they could go into politics.

Actually getting rid of non-dom was in the last Labour manifesto, but they were unfortunately unelectable for other reasons. Worth noting that non-dom in particular has been toxic for many years now. It is such a stupid rule, so very clearly designed to benefit the very wealthy with - as far as I can see - little to no benefit to the UK. In simple terms, it says if you are not British and you want to live here for up to 15 years, all you have to do is tell us that you don't really live here and you can avoid paying tax on all of the income derived from your offshore wealth (at a cost of £30k a year).

So you think he should look at every piece of legislation and any that he or his direct family benefit from then he should change? Or is it only legislation where he benefits by a certain amount?

Had he put this rule in place, then yes I can see where a conflict if interest would be called out, but this is existing legislation so his 'crime' is not to change the rules so that he is worse off (and presumably lots of Tory donors too and let's face it, they have far more power than Rishi does).

"Under current law, Murty will automatically be deemed domiciled after living in the UK for 15 years. Murty, who married Sunak in 2009, soon after they met while studying for a masters in business administration at Stanford University in Silicon Valley, moved to the UK in 2015."

Living PERMANENTLY in the UK for 7 years and it's somehow not domiciled or not permanent home? I would have bought it had she spent at least 50% of time every year outside of this country, but not this load of crap
