Polys couldn't award their own degrees or do research on their own. They had to "work" with a university.

Degrees from them were looked down on by the likes of government even though polys were aligned to the industries in the local area.

I did my A levels at an FE college where some of the lecturers would do lectures at one of the local polys when another lecturer was sick. This had the advantage for the more practical courses like BTechs as it made it easier for the students to transition from the FE college to one of the local polys.

Is that like being a sports masseur for lab workers?

A £50k debt is a huge burden for many people - especially those entering poorly paid yet essential jobs such as social work yet a mere inconvenience for those entering highly paid professions.

Meanwhile those with wealthy parents enter the workplace and housing market debt free.
Nope. Just stop the stupid practice of 40% of people going to university. When I were a lad, it was only 13% - so we had free tuition and even maintenance grants.

When you were a lad being a nurse or paramedic didn't require a degree, now they do as the jobs have more responsibilities.

I'm inclined to agree. I don't think it's right to push everyone to university, it's not the right environment for everyone and i can't help but think that it's a ruse to massage unemployment figures.

Blair's aim was to get 50% of young people into higher education.

Unfortunately there is no equivalent vocational level qualifications to a degree in many areas hence the proliferation of degrees.

Yeah, 50% is too high. There used to be BTECs then NVQs and now there's nothing of that ilk is there? Apprenticeships seem to be only half-heartedly supported.

Making nursing a graduate profession was in my view a massive mistake.

I looked into doing nursing training and it's as tough as going for the full MD. You may as well do the extra couple of years if you've got the academic acumen.

I also realised I'd be more of a Nurse Ratched type and the profession had a lucky escape.

No, it's a zero gravity masseur, harder than it sounds because the massee keeps floating away!
