Expat - no-one was blaming NL for the crime but for the lack of space in the country's prisons - a phenomenon which can be directly attributed to the Labour Government. I also object to your use of the phrase 'raving fascist' - I cannot think of anyone on this board who would fall under that description

A great many families were destroyed under the tories - loss of jobs/money/houses/dignity/respect need I go on?
Living in Sunderland I still see the effects on a daily basis which have trickled down into even the next generation in some places.

Men and young lads in prison now, would have more than likely gone into ship building or mining straight from school. Instead, them (like their dads/uncles/brothers) haven't really got a lot, turn to crime, yadda yadda yawn.

I'm not saying it's the case for everyone, but like I've said before on here, when people dont have prospects, or when people dont have money, or when people dont have a job (to take their mind of thinking), then they're not going to turn out too great are they?

Similarly, when people have been brought up in families where their best memory of being a kid is the time their dad and his mates nicked a sheep so their families could eat...well they cant be blamed if they grow up not being law abiding citizens either can they?

Theres not a great deal Labour or anyone could do to rectify those scars - its getting there, but you cant blame the present government for over crowded jails when you're not lookng at the root of why people are committing crimes in the first place.

I know I've went off on a tangent, and I'm not really saying that the tories are to blame for everyone in prison - but it just annoys me when people slate Labour for everything, and dont give enough thought to the fact that this country is STILL picking up the fecking pieces of the previous 20 years.

I disagree, I know plenty of people who were brought up in poverty/unemployment but who still went out and made something of themselves. Some people are scumbags they choose to be that way.

I'd be for the death penalty in some cases, if you could prove inconclusively that the suspect is guilty. Unfortunately you can't and one innocent life is never worth it.

People have been convicted wrongly, on 'iron-clad' evidence many times, and as much as I respect the police for doing a tough job I know they're only human and make mistakes, or are just plain bent at times as well. to ever be comfortable sanctioning the death penalty.

As long as life truly means life, I'm personally comfortable with locking them up, rather than putting them down.

Yep, everyone get's opportunities in life, it's up to them to take them. Opportunites are more limited the further down the social scale you go, and turning to crime is a choice you ultimately make, not one that's made for you.

I come from that kind of background, and plenty of people didn't make that choice, and the ones who did are looked on with equal amounts of disgust from those around them. Then again most on this board would label them chav's or something equally derogatory anyway.
